Apples:
  1. The apple is one of the oldest fruits grown.
  2. Some varieties of apples have been grown for at least 2,000 years.
  3. There are over 7,500 kinds of apples in the world today. That's a whole lot of apples.
  4. In the United States, you can choose among 2,500 different varieties of apples.
  5. Apples that are grown for their juice are known as cider apples, cooking apples or as dessert apples.
  6. Apples come in different colors from shades of red to yellow or green.
  7. When someone is in a bad mood, you may call them a crab apple, but crab apples are really nice tasty snack apples.
  8. Most of the apples in the United States come from Washington, Michigan, and New York.
  9. Cider is a drink from the juice of an apple.
  10. Try apple cider warmed up - it makes a delicious cold weather beverage.

Pumpkins:
  • Farmer Gus says "I never met a pumpkin I didn't like."
  • A pumpkin is the fruit of a trailing vine.
  • Most pumpkins are orange but can be white, green or even striped.
  • Some pumpkins can weigh over 900 pounds! That's as big as 2 baby elephants.
    Cornucopia:
  • A cornucopia is a goat's horn overflowing with fruit, flowers and corn, that stand for wealth and abundance.
  • A cornucopia is sometimes referred to as a horn of plenty.
